Could I Be Pregnant?

If you have sex (with or without protection) there’s always a chance you could get pregnant, especially on very specific days during your cycle.

Many women assume that because they use contraception they are fully protected, but no form of hormonal birth control is 100% effective.

If you’ve had unprotected sex and are feeling “off,” you may start to wonder if you’re pregnant. There are some common pregnancy symptoms you can be on the lookout for, but ultimately only a pregnancy test can tell you with certainty whether or not you’re pregnant. We offer pregnancy testing for free, so contact us to schedule your appointment today!

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

While you shouldn’t rely on symptoms to know for sure if you are pregnant, there are some telltale signs that can signal you should take a pregnancy test. Here are some of the most common pregnancy symptoms:

Late or Missed Period

This is the most common sign of pregnancy, but you can also miss your period for other reasons. High stress, hormonal changes, and extenuating life circumstances can all cause your cycle to be off track and you can miss your period entirely. It’s best to wait at least one week after your missed period to take a pregnancy test for the most accurate results.

Tender or Swollen Breasts

If you are pregnant, your body is going through many changes to prepare for pregnancy and birth. One of those changes is sending progesterone to your breasts to cause the tissue there to grow. This can cause discomfort and for your breasts to feel heavier. Again, other factors could be at play besides a pregnancy, but this is often a good indication you’re pregnant.

Fatigue

As your body changes, it’s common to feel greater fatigue, especially during the first few months of pregnancy. If you are more tired than usual or have a hard time making it through your day and routine, this could be a sign you’re pregnant, especially in conjunction with other pregnancy symptoms.

Food Aversions or Cravings

The hormonal changes your body goes through during pregnancy can also impact what foods you like or dislike. You may experience cravings for foods you’ve always hated or aversions to foods you’ve always loved. These are usually more pronounced in the first trimester but can last throughout the pregnancy.

Mood Swings

Finally, you may experience mild or extreme mood swings during pregnancy. These can be especially unsettling if you don’t normally experience emotional highs and lows on a regular basis.
